Mary Magdalene Event, July 23, 2011

On Saturday evening, July 23rd, 84 people from 24 area parishes gathered at St Philip Neri Parish’s Carvlin Hall to honor St. Mary of Magdala, Apostle to the Apostles.
The event, following the parish Vigil Mass, incorporated prayer, music, sharing and reflection. We named and celebrated the continuing ministries shared by women and men as well, in the tradition of Mary Magdalene, the first woman called by Christ to serve the community.
We began with a “Hunting for Mary” ice breaker, viewed images of Mary through the centuries in art, listened to Scripture, prayed, and reflected together on what her example means to our call to ministry. We asked for the intercession of all Holy Women to strengthen us in our mission, and encouraged and blessed one another to continue to serve our communities.
The presence of the Holy Spirit was deeply felt in the energy of this gathering of today’s apostles.
